2015 Subaru BRZ: A Sports-Car Legend in the Making
2015 Subaru BRZ

Legendary sports cars of the 1960s and 1970s followed a strikingly familiar engineering and design formula: Porsche® 356 and RS, Mini Cooper and Cooper S, BMW 2002, Datsun 510, and MGB models earned their stellar reputations on the automotive road map because of their light weight, reliability, responsive powertrains, and, in particular, agile handling.

Subaru infused each of these qualities into its own BRZ – the lightest rear-wheel drive 2+2 production GT sports car in the U.S. market with an extremely low center of gravity. This classic sports-car formula from the late 1940s and 1950s found its way into the U.S. in the sports cars brought home by GIs returning from postwar assignments in Europe. In spirit, the BRZ pays homage to the best of the world’s legendary sports cars, but with 21st-century engineering prowess, materials, and innovations – all wrapped in a beautifully designed and aerodynamic body.

Tuned for Responsive, Agile Handling That sports-car feeling is reinforced by a lightweight MacPherson strut suspension in front and double-wishbone suspension in the rear. Engineered for rigidity as well as a low center of gravity, the frame and responsive suspension masterfully determine just how precisely you can carve corners through a set of mountainside S-turns.

It also helps to have a SUBARU BOXER flat four mounted low and pushed far back in the frame to reposition vehicle weight closer to the ground for a balanced, low-slung, ground-hugging feel and ultra-responsive handling.

Quick-ratio steering (13.1:1) makes even the slightest touch of the wheel a direct and accentuated command – another hallmark of sports-car driving. The BRZ dives into every curve with a healthy 0.94 Gs1 of cornering capability. Subaru engineers made this car low and sticky, and yet comfortable enough for the long haul – a driver’s car and true grand touring machine!

Big Cat Poise The BRZ embodies sports-car traditions engineered for today with a potent powertrain that perfectly matches its balanced handling. The 200-hp SUBARU BOXER direct-injection engine is more than capable of propelling the 2,764-pound BRZ through either a 6-speed manual or automatic (with manual mode and paddle shifters) transmission.

The powertrain is kept under control by four-wheel ventilated disc brakes with measured stopping distances from 60 mph of less than 120 feet.2 That rivals the best of today’s sports cars … and beats quite a few! Control and agility also are boosted by the standard limited-slip differential to reduce wheelspin and improve traction.

Driver’s Command Post Once you’ve slipped inside a BRZ, the interior cockpit envelops you – not just with the well-bolstered seats that hold you in place around tortuous curves, but with classic sports-car positioning, instrumentation, and controls.

So, How Do You Improve on That?

For 2015, Subaru fortifies the legendary character and charisma of the BRZ with an exclusive, limited-production model that takes the BRZ to an even higher level! Check it out below!

Introducing the BRZ Series.Blue – One in a Thousand

Subaru engineers wanted to take everything that’s great about the 2015 BRZ and raise it up another notch with a limited-production BRZ Series.Blue. Upgraded body and interior pieces make the exclusive, and elusive, Series.Blue model one of the most eye-catching and coveted performance-engineered vehicles on the road today.

A Distinctively Aggressive Look The new STI-branded aero pieces – front, side, and rear – add an unmistakable cool factor and give this car a distinctly aggressive look that says, “Watch out, I’m coming fast.” Plus added underbody covers give you that extra performance edge by helping reduce the coefficient of drag from 0.28 to 0.27.

Adding to that aggressive exterior look, 17" STI 15-spoke gloss black finish alloy wheels take command of the road with agility, responsiveness, and control. Plus, distinctive red front and rear brake calipers appeal to performance enthusiasts by showing this BRZ has serious stopping power.

Interior Accents that Excite Inside, a driver-focused cockpit with simulated carbon-fiber accents reinforces this sports car’s performance engineering. Blue Alcantara®6-accented upholstery with blue leather bolsters and head restraints cradle you in the curves, and the upgraded small-diameter steering wheel with blue leather and stitching grabs you as you slide into the driver’s seat.

The silver-embroidered BRZ logo and blue stitching on the seats and floor mats make the interior unmistakably BRZ, and that blue stitching is carried through on the center console knee pads, shift lever boot, parking-brake lever, and door trim. They all add subtle performance touches throughout the cabin.

Other details that give the BRZ Series.Blue a final high-tech touch are a frameless day/night rearview mirror and an STI-branded start-stop button. Both evoke a timeless racing heritage.

Each BRZ Series.Blue is literally one in a thousand – 500 in WR Blue Pearl and 500 in Crystal White Pearl – and all with the blue-highlighted interior.
